Wild Aloe Vera of Mare Monte
Wild Aloe Vera of Mare Monte by Hun Adamoglu

Judges Comment:

"An absolutely stunning rendition of the Aloe Vera subject matter – beautifully ‘drawn’ and composed, blending the soft greens of the plant with lighter tone focal points providing many layers of compositional complexity. Stunning tones and exquisitely composed in High Renaissance manner, reminiscent of the work of Titian."

Drifting Blue
Drifting Blue by Lisa Gribbon

Judges Comment:

"This work consists mainly of an attractive large abstract soft square/round corner main motif with Blue circular shapes drifting in and out – there’s an exciting interplay of lines/textures and soft colour shapes and tones making an attractive dreamlike visual experience."

Vesuvius
Vesuvius by Kirsten McAlister

Judges Comment:

"This work by Kirsten depicts an area near Mount Vesuvius. The scene is eloquently drawn with superb analysis of perspective, distance and includes numerous compositional markers from foreground to distance. The scene is of a fairly ordinary backyard beside a road which drives through the painting directing the viewer towards Mount Vesuvius in the background. The work contains many detailed studies within the scene but points ominously to Vesuvius – perhaps pondering on what would happen if the volcano erupted again repeating the tragic history of the region? "

Agnes
Agnes by Tamar Chatterjee

Judges Comment:

"A rather lovely and perhaps mystical painting of a lone sheep in the daunting/frightening landscape reminiscent of Glen Shee. The subject, ‘Agnes’ seems to be unperturbed by the pending storms behind or indeed around her but merely ponders the situation before driving on. It maybe points to the predicament of man in turmoil and his quest to sort problems out – most often unsuccessfully.  Put simply - is ‘Agnes’ not telling us to calm down and assess situations before charging on out of one catastrophe into another?

A thoughtful work, full of foreboding?"
